Funky Day

Where to start?! Today was definitely fun-filled.

I had a modeling practice today for Rustic Knitts, who will be showcasing at RAW Vegas this Thursday at the Act. Their design concept is simple, and extremely cool – jewelry made from chains and bullets! Who knew that rocked?

blackAnyway, right afterward, I headed off to my weekly pool night with Aida. It was a pretty fairly matched game, 4-3 in my favour. I swear, she’s getting better every time.

It was nearing 11:30 pm at that point, and we decided to crash CJ’s house once again. Being Tuesday, we knew it was dodgeball night and that they’d only be getting home. Once we got the okay, we grabbed our hookah and made our way to their place.

Now I should say, we LOVE playing with hookah smoke. Call us childish, but it’s extremely cool to push the boundaries of what you can do with it. We recently came up with the idea of using bubbles, and a couple hits later, here’s what happened: (will open new tab) .

Let’s see what tomorrow brings along 🙂

Kitty Bye-Bye

Kitty!

Earlier today, I posted an ad on craigslist for free kittens. I had about 15 text messages before noon, so I hurried over to the boyfriend’s house. Matt and I spent the morning and early afternoon cleaning out the carpet and the entire house. A girl named Alexis had been the first to text me – she said her twin sisters were having their 12th birthday on Wednesday (adorable!!) and she was going to give them sister kittens as a present. I’m more than happy to give them away in pairs – in fact, their mother was one of two siblings (the other a male) that I acquired for free from my dear friends Seth and Lani. The third kitten went to my friend Cindy, and the last two will be picked up by a nice couple who wants to give them to their 4 little girls. How sweet! Everyone’s happy (including us), and I think even their mommy Syd is relieved to be off feeding duties. My babes

Untypical, I’d say

Very untypical of me, indeed.

I woke up today with the intention of going to hear mass. Now, I was born and raised a Catholic, although I no longer actively practice this religion. There is a local parish I actually like to go to – St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, near my house. Truthfully, I was roused from my sleep by an unknown force, and found that if I started getting ready, I could actually catch the 4 pm mass. I took it as a sign (since I’d been intending to go anyway), got ready, and went.

It was very… odd, to say the least. It felt like I was almost home, in a way. I guess the familiarity was comforting after a couple of rocky months. In any case, I had come with an ulterior purpose – I wanted some intentions to be added to mass on our behalf, but when I went to talk to someone, I got a surprise. Apparently, all their intentions were fully booked for the entirety of the year! The kind lady saw my disheartened face and told me she had an alternative – she would add my intentions to the weekly Friday rosary prayers instead. I was incredibly grateful, bless her heart, and I plan to return next week. I may even show up for the rosary session! She handed me a certificate, told me a donation wasn’t necessary, and sent me along on my way.

After that uplifting moment, it was time to get down and dirty. My dad and I had to haul some heavy things from our storage into the new house, which only took a couple of hours. If I break a sweat, and don’t break a nail, I consider it a great job done. I also got to see my uncle, which is always a plus (if you don’t have too many relatives close by, you’ll understand why it’s a big deal).

Then all of a sudden, Christian hit me up! “Come over and chill at my new place”. Totally down for that. I was told hookah and swimming, with Asian Mike and Ben, so I grabbed my gear and ran out the door. What I didn’t expect though, was how infinitely awesome his new place was. He’s living with some random dudes who obviously enjoy the bachelor lifestyle. They had skeeball, arcade basketball, shuffleboard, pool, darts, slot machine, a closet full of board games… and I’ve mentioned the (heated) swimming pool and jacuzzi. Hold on. I forget to mention, they have a freaking wide screen projector set up in the backyard in perfect view of the pool… and it was playing The Dark Knight Rises!

Okay, okay, maybe it wasn’t all that (it totally was). Too bad I was enjoying myself too much to get a photo. Maybe the next time I come visit. Then again, Christian dropping the ball of his lip ring in the jacuzzi made me forget other things.

As I left around 1:30 am, who else but my boyfriend calls, asking to make sure I was okay. After reassuring him that I was still alive and breathing, I headed over to his place, where he, Shawnz and Matt were enjoying some late night drinks. Some food and dessert later, I went home, intending for bed.

Yet somehow, here I am at 7:02 in the morning updating my blog.

Watching Bones, painting shoes, and posting ads on Craigslist tends to do that, I suppose.

Gargoyles and more

Today was probably my fullest day in a while – a recent bout of insomnia resulting in no sleep whatsoever, coupled with an early morning. I got to Joe’s around 7:30 am today, did my hair up into a mohawk, took the boyfriend to work, grabbed coffee, and headed out to the Arts District for my 9:30 am shoot with Justice and Gargoyle. We went with a post-apocalyptic grunge look with this shoot, and I’d have to say I had a blast. Chantrea, Ariela and I all (mysteriously) arrived wearing black bras and camo pants – we’ll take this as a sign 😉

Now a quick background on these men: Justice is a photographer/photo-editor, with a bad ass dread mohawk, while Gargoyle is the horn-wearing, body painting genius. It is only ever around them, that it is completely normal to have numerous half-naked/fully naked women running around. It is also perfectly commonplace to start drinking and smoking at 10 in the morning. Welcome to underground Las Vegas! (That’s Gargoyle on the right, by the way).

Our session broke up around 1:30 in the afternoon, and I headed off to my third destination of the day – picking up Mikey from his apartments. Mike is one of our krew members, though recent relocation has made it difficult for him to constantly make time to hang out. Nevertheless, he is always there. As soon he finished his shower, we were off to the Galleria Mall at Sunset, one of the nicer (though farther) malls in the Vegas region. A quick Spencer’s and Hot Topic trip later, we walked away with two awesome new shirts.

At this point, I have to mention I had been up over 24 hours straight, and drinking beer at 10 am did nothing to help. Mike offered for me to crash at his place while I waited on Joe to get off work (thanks again, bud, I owe you one!) 5 pm rolls by and I head for the strip… only to be met with congestion and the sinking realization that it was once again EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) weekend. Thankfully, it was still pretty early, and I managed to get through after half an hour. From then on, it was to Daddy’s (Joe’s dad’s) house. for some incredibly delicious noms and a movie. I would have loved to post a photo, but I was starving so badly, I dug in as soon as I heard “amen”. Some Southern style fried chicken, mashed potatoes and grilled corn sent me directly to food heaven.

There’s really nothing too special when we got home after that, save for Joe running out of the room after some scuffling in the kitchen. As it turns out, Matt had found a spider, and so help us, was trying to spray it with – get this – spray paint! Boys will really always be boys. After grabbing a couple hours worth of sleep, I finally resigned to the fact I had to head home… and so here I am. Sleepless in Vegas, once again.

Friday Date

Joe and spent most of today staking out garden centers (after sleeping in well after noon, of course). Of the four places we went, not a single one carries pansies this time of year in Vegas! What a bummer. But hey, if they have seeds, we’ll keep trying.

During some home-cooked dinner, Joe suddenly blurted out, “I really want to see the Hangover III!” I pulled out my phone, found the 8 pm showing at Town Center, and we were off – that is, until we were just about to exit the freeway. He somehow thought it would be a great time to change his mind! And so right as we turned, he says, “Actually, I want to see the Superman movie instead.”

Really? Now I’d like you to know, I should have seen this coming. A quick peek at the website showed a lot of time between then and the next show – unless we went to the theater I’ve been dying to go to. I figured it was the perfect moment to surprise him, and told him to hand over his credit card (no, I normally don’t do that… just in case you were wondering). Some rapid-fire typing on a tiny touchscreen later, and I had scored the last two seats for the 8:45 showing of Man of Steel at Galaxy theaters. Score one for the tech-savvy!

He’s never heard of this particular theater, but I being the Yelper that I am, had heard good things. I was certainly not disappointed! We picked up our tickets quickly, the popcorn lines were short, they had beer on tap, and garlic parmesan seasoning  – all shocking discoveries to him. He was impressed when he saw the inside of the theater and how cozy it is… but even more so when I showed him each seat reclined into a bed position. Oh yes, this was the life.

The movie itself was great (though I could do without the sappy Clark Kent/Lois Lane scenes), and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are definitely coming back here ASAP.Image

Shoe Mania (I)

Okay, here’s the deal. Tessa (Joe and Matt’s sister) gave me an old pair of heels before she left. They were in good shape, a little scuffed, but one of them had a broken strap. Inspiration struck one day as I stared at AK (our Finnish foreign exchange student – we miss her!)’s homecoming dress, which Tessa of course, had created. Snip snip snip!

Shoe Before

I grabbed some materials Tessa already had laying around, and decided to take the plunge…

And I think they came out great!!!

Okay, okay, here’s the final product. I think I’ll be wearing these around a lot…

Thoughts, anyone? I have another pair of white shoes I’m just ITCHING to beautify 😉

Wednesday Nights

Another fun filled day for me (the sarcasm just rolls off, doesn’t it?) But really, the day started off too early for me to remember. I had my third interview, then promptly headed to Joe’s and passed out for the remainder of the day.

My “day” actually started out around 6 pm – starting with a couple of my shoe projects that had been waiting (separate post about that coming right up). Then it was time to head off to Walmart since CJ called me to autograph his card. Just kidding, it’s Taylor (CJ’s girlfriend)’s big 18th birthday, and he wanted as many people to sign it as possible. Cue me to the rescue!

After a quick stop at In-n-Out for some much needed nourishment, I headed to Billy’s house, where he, Brandon and Patrick were waiting. Now what we actually do is pretty hush-hush (though completely legal, I assure you), I can tell you it involves a lot of brainstorming and computers. There, I finally met the other Joe, who was also kind enough to supply us with some fantabulous jerky.

Midnight and a half comes, and it’s finally time to head home – seeing as it’s a Wednesday and I was due for a visit from the food-and-movie bearing godfather of the kitchen. What will he bring this poor child tonight??

And… in pops the Cloud Atlas (extremely long, but well worth it), a big bowl of salsa and chips, and some delicious noodles. I’m a spoiled girlfriend, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

As it is, the current time is 7:10 am, and I have yet to feel the prickly tendrils of sleep. In the in-between of the movie and Joe snoring peacefully on my bed, I have managed to complete one project. Yes, I shall definitely pass out happily tonight (or this morning).
